Reading is a basic ability that can be used by students in elementary school, so students can read the writing well, correctly, and quickly, can provide reading content. The fact that the ability to read fast from grade 1 students of SDN Berangas Timur 1 in Alalak District, Barito Kuala District, is still very lacking, and very difficult. The method used in this study is Classroom Action Research which is a form of focusing on reflective research by carrying out teaching actions in order to improve or enhance forms of professional learning in the classroom. The results showed that through the learning model Survey, Question, Read, Recite, and Review (SQ3R), it could make the activities and abilities of teachers to be better in implementing reading learning in class I SDN Berangas Timur 1. This is evident from: (1) the teacher activity score of the first cycle of the 1st meeting was 57 good enough categories, the second meeting was 76.4 in the good category, in the second cycle the 1st meeting was 90.3 in the very good category, and 2nd meeting was 94.4 very good categories. (2) The learning model of Survey, Question, Read, Recite, and Review (SQ3R), can increase students' activities in learning to read, this is proven by the student activity score of the first cycle of the 1st meeting at 60.9 categories, good enough, 2nd meeting totaling 76.4 good categories, second cycle meeting 1 was 87.6 very good category, and second meeting was 95.3 very good category. (3) Survey Model, Question, Read, Recite, And Review (SQ3R), can improve the reading ability of first grade students, as proven by individual students' reading ability in the first cycle of the 1st meeting. the average is able to read 20.35 words, the second meeting on average is able to read 24.53 words, the second cycle of the first meeting is able to read 28.41 words, and the second meeting the average student is able to read 34 , 24 words. (4) Percentage of learning completeness, cycle 1 of the 1st meeting was completed 64.71%, 2nd meeting was completed 94.12%, cycle II of the 1st and 2nd meetings was 100% complete, and the results exceeded the indicators predetermined success. Based on these results, this study was declared successful. Thus the dissemination of the learning model Survey, Question, Read, Recite, and Review (SQ3R), can be used as an alternative to improve students' reading ability
